CSD 380 - The Practice of Speech-Language Pathology (3 cr.)


Students will be presented with information about various settings in which a speech-language pathologist can seek employment. Students will review and discuss preparation for graduate school and credentialing requirements for practicing in the field. ASHA Code of Ethics and Scopes of Practice will be presented. Students will directly observe practicing SLPs in at least two settings. Students will be provided with an introduction to clinical practice, including exposure to and practice with screening and assessment tools. Students will be provided guided assistance and opportunities for practice in determining acceptable goals and objectives, material selection, data collection and record keeping. Strategies and skills to ensure successful therapy sessions and exposure to a variety of clinical report formats will also be presented and opportunities for practice will be provided.
Prerequisite(s): junior standing, CSD338.
