MUS 112 - Jazz History (3 cr.) Survey of jazz, from its roots in Africa through 19th century minstrelsy to late 20th century fusion of electronics, rock, and traditional elements. Rudiments of music such as notation, improvisation, rhythm, melody, harmony. Development of listening skills, identification of instruments, discussion of the various styles of jazz and the American society in which it has developed.
