HDF 312 - Families in Global Perspective (3 cr.) This course will expand students’ knowledge and understanding of the primary socializer-the family-in cultures across the globe. We will look at differences in gender roles, marriage, parenting, taking care of the elderly, and other issues relevant to families. Students will engage in comparative studies of not only the U.S., but with other cultures. For example, how is globalization changing the dynamics of families in developing countries? Because students will be primarily assigned to one culture, they have the ability to become immersed in that culture rather than just having a cursory look at multiple cultures. Liberal arts Prerequisite(s): PSY 101 ; SOC 101 ; 2.5 cumulative GPA. General Education Category: Global Issues Semester(s) Offered: Spring
