EDS 524 - Autism Spectrum Disorder (3 cr.) Descriptions, definitions, and methods of identifying Autism Spectrum Disorder. Understanding the human development of children and ability to identify typical and atypical development. The symptoms and assessment instruments or techniques available to alert parents and providers to seek further evaluation by a child study team of the local school district and a developmental pediatrician. Local, state, and national resources for parents and professionals. Current research and debate associated with the perceived causes of the disorders. Learning to work with students on the spectrum through teaching strategies and techniques. Students will complete a minimum of 50 hours in the field. Semester(s) Offered: Fall
