The majors and minors in foreign languages offer a well-rounded and balanced liberal arts education. Cultural studies focusing on the intellectual, geographic, political, economic, and social structures of the countries in which each language is spoken, and courses geared to developing the ability to analyze, comprehend, and discuss literary themes and art forms, complement the department’s fundamental objectives to expand the student’s oral and written language proficiency and cultural sensibilities to the broadest extent possible. Major Departmental Requirements 28-39 Credits

Language Prerequisite/Placement: (0-6 cr.)

SPA 111 - Elementary Spanish I (0 to 3 cr.) or proficiency
SPA 112 - Elementary Spanish II (0 to 3 cr.) or proficiency or
SPA 151 - Spanish for the Professions (3 cr.)

Completion of all Undergraduate Degree Requirements , including General Education: The Cardinal Core Curriculum , elective courses if applicable, and a total of 120 credits minimum.
A minimum GPA of 2.0 in Major Departmental Requirements.
A minimum grade of C in all Spanish (SPA) courses.
Students are encouraged to spend time abroad.
