A creative writing degree offers you flexibility in your career choices.  Utilizing this degree, you could be a proofreader, journalist or a social media manager.  The opportunities are endless. For more information contact the English Department . Major Departmental Requirements 42 Credits


Departmental Requirements: (6 cr.)


Writing Workshop Requirements: (21 cr.)


Introductory Courses


(Transfer students and students changing their major to Creative Writing may satisfy this requirement with any equivalent lower-level writing course, excluding First-year Composition.)

Intermediate


Select two upper level (300) writing courses from the following - one must meet the Advanced Writing Requirement (AWR):

Advanced


Must be successfully completed twice as part of the Capstone Experience.

Upper Level Literature


Select one additional upper level 300/400 literature course.

Capstone Experience: (0 cr.)


Creative Writing majors must submit a successful portfolio based on guidelines established and approved by the English Department. Majors must enroll in ENG 485 , in both semesters of senior year, and in the following non-credit course: ENG 488 .  

Additional Degree Requirements


  1. Completion of all Undergraduate Degree Requirements, including General Education: The Cardinal Core Curriculum, elective courses if applicable, and a total of 120 credits minimum. 
  2. A minimum GPA of 2.0 in Major Departmental Requirements.
