Curriculum 0302 Requirements

The curricula for the B.A. and B.S. biology majors provide a rigorous foundation in fundamental biology to include study in more than one kingdom. Both curricula are firmly supported by chemistry, mathematics, and physics requirements; students are also afforded the opportunity to pursue study in interdisciplinary courses as preparation for successful participation in civic and societal endeavors that support the sciences. For more information contact the Biological Sciences Department . Major Electives (15 cr.)


Select 15 credits from BIO, CHE, or MAT 200 level or above.

  • At least 12 credits must be from BIO 300/400 level courses.
  • No more than three credits of BIO 495 , BIO 496  or BIO 499  in any combination can be counted as Major Electives.
  • Courses taken to fulfill cognate requirements cannot also be counted as Major Electives.

Additional Cognate Requirement (18 cr.)


Select one of the following:

  • 18 credits of additional MAT, BIO, PHY or CHE courses 9 of which must be 300 level or higher or
  • Complete a university-approved minor, determined by advisement.

Additional Degree Requirements


  1. Completion of all Undergraduate Degree Requirements, including General Education: The Cardinal Core Curriculum, elective courses if applicable, and a total of 120 credits minimum. 
  2. A minimum GPA of 2.5 in Major Departmental Requirements.
