CSD 550 - Social Aspects of Communication Disorders (3 cr.) Description and exploration of relationships between communication disorders and a variety of social, emotional, behavioral, and cognitive impairments in children and adults; analysis of these deficits with respect to language learning disorder, autism spectrum disorders, selective mutism, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, abused/neglected children; and functional communication disorders. Delineation of assessment and intervention methods, and the roles of the speech language pathologist in the assessment and management of these disorders as part of a professional team. NYS Mandated Reporter training will be completed during this course through the NYSED online training course. NYS required training in the needs of children with Autism is also covered.
