CSD 537 - Augmentative and Alternative Communication Systems (3 cr.) This course will focus on the application of current literature on alternative & augmentative communication with a focus on assessment and management of the communication abilities of individuals with complex communication needs across the lifespan. Topics will include: etiological factors related to the need for AAC; assessment of cognitive, motor, social and communication skills; AAC intervention approaches in school, hospital, clinical and home settings; impact of severe communication impairment on emotional, vocational, and professional domains; use of assistive technology; multidisciplinary teaming in assessment and intervention; and ethical and cultural considerations in the provision of services. Prerequisite(s): Acceptance into Speech-Language Pathology graduate program. Semester(s) Offered: Summer
