CSD 528 - Clinical Methods (1 cr.)


In this course, students will discuss and pursue knowledge, skills and perspectives necessary to be an effective, ethical, and responsible professional.  Clinical methods focus on the development of skills for ethical and culturally competent service provision, effective documentation of speech-language pathology services, and continuing growth as a professional. Basic information relating to clinical procedures, policies, and techniques will be presented and discussed in this course. Students will be asked to self-evaluate their current and future knowledge and skill acquisition as they progress throughout the semester (especially via their portfolio submissions). Students will also be exposed to current issues affecting the field of speech-language pathology such as license/credential concerns, the evolution of the profession (and ever-changing nature of research within our field), and the scope of practice for speech-language pathologists as defined by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Associations Standards, Code of Ethics, and Scope of Practice. 
Prerequisite(s):  Acceptance into speech-language pathology graduate program.
