Introductory exploration of the musical elements, instruments, and characteristics of various non-Western cultures. Geographic emphasis on Japan, China. Indonesia, India, the Mid-East, Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Course stresses listening skills and relating musical elements to their derivative culture.
