HIS 171 - Canada to the 1860s (3 cr.) This course will provide an introduction to the major themes of Canadian history which together show how a unique country took shape north of the United States. A relationship emerged between Canada’s First Nations and the French explorers and missionaries, and this created a situation of co-dependence and cultural hybridity. After the British Conquest of New France, Canada became part of the British Empire and evolved into one of the most multicultural and tolerant societies in the world.
