CRI 357 - Courts and Criminal Procedures (3 cr.)


This course examines the structure and process of US criminal courts.  Included are concepts of jurisdiction, venue, court participants, and due process of law through pre and post arrest procedures to trial and appellate review.  Constitutional issues of: The Bill of Rights (and “incorporation doctrine”); the “exclusionary rule”; search and seizure; right to counsel; prosecutorial discretion; provident pleas; excessive bail; preventive detention; competency; compulsory process of witnesses; double jeopardy; and speedy trial are addressed.
