PHI 314 - Philosophy and Art (3 cr.) This course examines culturally diverse aesthetic theories. Approximately one half of the course will study Euro-American aesthetic theories, and the other half will survey aesthetic theories from among African, Asian, Latin American, or Oceanic cultures. Will emphasize culturally unique concepts of beauty and authenticity, and theories of aesthetic experience and interpretation. Course content and assignments will encourage students to examine their aesthetic values within a diverse society, and to explore culturally diverse ways art embodies human experiences and institutions. Liberal arts Prerequisite(s): Any lower-level course within the Cardinal Core Individual Expression category, or sophomore standing.
