EDR 514 - Teaching Literacy and Social Justice for All Students (3 cr.) This course focuses on teaching reading, writing, speaking, listening, and visual and media literacy skills through conscious awareness and use of multiple, integrated, practical, and creative problem-solving strategies adapted to the specific needs and interests of all students including emergent bilingual/multilingual students (English Language Learners). Topics will include language development and acquisition, multilingualism, as well as literature and classroom activities that reflect diversity and issues of social justice in the classroom. This course will help candidates affirm, respect, and value cultural, linguistic, and ethic diversity through the development of multicultural competencies and their role in teaching literacy.
