SOC 303 - Sociology of Development in the Americas (3 cr.) Effects of development and global integration of the economy and culture on peripheral urban and rural peoples in the Western Hemisphere. Topics include notions of underdevelopment, branch-plant industry, agri-export economies, subsistence and informal economies, migration, international tourism, squatter settlements, environmental issues related to development, women in development, and movements for local autonomy.
