PHY 421 - Fundamentals of Electromagnetism (3 cr.) An introductory course in electrodynamics covering both the fundamentals of electricity and magnetism as well as some more advanced topics. Static electric and magnetic fields in free space and in material media are covered as well as Maxwell’s equations and the propagation of plane electromagnetic waves. Techniques for solution of problems including LaPlace’s equation, multipole expansion and Gauge transformation are introduced. Applications including transmission lines, radiation, and waveguides are also addressed. Liberal arts Prerequisite(s): PHY 112 , MAT 426 .
