LAS 350 - The Global Economy in Latin America: Industry, Labor and the Environment (3 cr.) An exploration of the global economic forces that are shaping the contemporary living and labor conditions of Latin Americans. Case studies from Central and South America provide students with a critical understanding of international economic relationships and the extractive, manufacturing and agricultural industries currently operating in Latin American countries. The course will consider the social, cultural, political, and environmental contexts in which these industries occur, as well as the complex socio-cultural and political changes associated with the drastic economic restructuring of a society.
