CSD 537 - Alternative and Augmentative Communication Systems (3 cr.) Application of current literature on alternative/augmentative communication (AAC) with a focus on assessment and management of the communication abilities of individuals across the lifespan. Topics include: normal communication development; assessment of cognitive, motor, social and communication skills; etiological factors related to the need for AAC; planning of therapeutic strategies and objectives; training and use of AAC in school, hospital, clinical and home settings; use of assistive technology; assessment of intervention efficacy; and multidisciplinary learning in assessment and intervention. Prerequisite(s): graduate students in speech-language pathology and a college-level course in normal language development. Semester(s) Offered: Summer
