General Education Requirements


Students must meet requirements for general education; see The Cardinal Core Curriculum  for details. Certain courses that fulfill major or cognate requirements may also apply to general education.

Major Departmental Requirements 51 Credits


Studio Concentration: (12 Credits)


Complete a sequence of four courses in one studio area in addition to the foundation course, and in an area outside the two selected studio breadth courses.  Transfer students must complete three courses in the concentration at Plattsburgh.  

Major Art Electives (9 cr.)


Select nine additional upper-division credits in ART (studio or art history)

Junior-Level Portfolio Review: (0 Credits)


ART 397  Required in the spring semester of the junior year of all art majors with 57 or more total credits:

Advanced Writing Requirement: (3 Credits)


Electives 41-42 Credits


Certain major/cognate courses may also satisfy GE requirements thus increase elective credits accordingly.

Total Credits minimum 120


Additional Degree Requirements


  1. Minimum overall GPA of 2.0 in all Major Departmental Requirements
  2. Completion of all Undergraduate Degree Requirements 
  3. AP credits in Art Studio or in Art History will be accepted as electives only.
  4. Transfer students must complete a minimum of 21 credits in art courses and a total of 36 credits as SUNY Plattsburgh including:
