EDU 395 - Adolescent Development (3 cr.)


This course is an in-depth study of major theories of adolescent development. It examines how adolescents develop in multiple ways by multiple internal and external means; how they are motivated; and how their individual and group differences affect their learning. The course will allow students to develop an understanding of how adolescent education is informed and influenced by psychological theory and how these theories affect adolescent learning and development. The course includes a minimum of 20 field hours toward the state-mandated 100 field hours before student teaching. This course meets SED mandates for the completion of  The Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) (Education Law - Article 2), School Violence Prevention and Intervention (SAVE), instructing students for preventing child abduction and maltreatment (EDN §803a), as well as prevention of alcohol, tobacco, and drug abuse (substance abuse) (EDN §804), providing safety education as it pertains to highway safety, traffic regulations, and bicycle safety (EDN §806), and instructing students in fire and arson prevention (EDN §808).
Prerequisite(s):  BA/MST Adolescence majors or matriculation into the Teaching Assistant Microcredential
