EDU 589 - Social Foundations (3 cr.)


This course focuses on 19th to the 21st century social foundations (political, social, and philosophical perspectives) of US schooling. Before honing teaching skills, a professional teacher must understand the profession in terms of the values, principles, and commitments expressed and expected. This course will explore the role of public schooling using interpretive, normative, and critical perspectives, assess its relevance to contemporary conditions, and examine the teacher’s role from a professional and ethical viewpoint.
Prerequisite(s):  MST Adolescence majors or POI
