ART 211 - Introduction to Photography (3 cr.)
This course is an introductory studio art course for the beginning black and white photographer. The main emphasis of this course will be two-fold. The first will center on the understanding and operation of photographic equipment including: the camera, lens, photo accessories, film, lighting, filters, enlargers, archival film processing, and darkroom printing processes. Also explored are the aesthetic principles and concepts of black and white photography including composition, design, tone, contrast, depth of field, conceptual considerations in photographic contexts, print analysis/critique, and spatial considerations in presentation. Critical issues in the history of photography are addressed throughout the semester.
