ART 104 - Basic Design: 2-D (3 cr.)

An introduction to two-dimensional design that emphasizes visual thinking through the development of a vocabulary of the elements and principles of design, a conceptual approach to applying them creatively, and a respect for craftsmanship in their applications. This class will study the language of vision. We will develop a vocabulary of two-dimensional design, both verbal and practical. This will provide the student with understanding the principles and processes of creating visual art on a two-dimensional plane. A primary goal of this course is to sensitize to and develop understanding of visual organization. Another goal is to give visual organization meaning and power. In this course, senses, perceptions, emotions and intuition work together to find alternative ways to express and communicate visually.
