HIS 3126 - Social History of Victorian Britain (3 cr.)

In the Victorian Era (1837 - 1901), Great Britain was the greatest economic, military and industrial power on earth, but what was it like to actually live there? Social history explores daily life in the past, using sources like novels, newspapers, and government inquiries to examine topics like housing, education, healthcare, childhood games and bathing habits, all of it affected by the peculiar Victorian way of seeing Britain and the British place in the world.
