ART 280 - Introduction to Printmaking (3 cr.) Printmaking is the art of creating images by carving or etching into a matrix (wood, metal, etc.), covering that matrix with pigment and pressing it against paper, which transfers the picture to the new surface. Various processes will be used to develop students’ artistic statements and problem-solving skills. Students will be introduced to the history of the medium and will examine contemporary examples of artists’ prints and how they relate to their own artwork.
