ENV 432 - Forest Ecology and Management (4 cr.)


Evaluates relationships, patterns, and the underlying processes of forest ecosystems.  Students in this course become proficient with standard forest mensuration instrumentation and techniques allowing them to quantitatively measure forest structure. The course also focuses on forest cover type identification, with students becoming proficient in tree identification and community assemblages. Students who take this course can describe forest stands and ecosystems in terms of structure and composition and compare the similarities and differences between natural disturbances and silvicultural treatments. Students also gain enhanced proficiency with sampling protocols, data management and statistical analyses and improve their ability to write scientific reports. The course is structured to discuss topics in the classroom, collect and analyze field data, and then synthesize and interpret ecological outcomes
